Sugar-free syrup in Germany: how a niche became a mass market
Updated 25 October 2026
Note: There is a business connection between the operator of this site and LUVA: a person behind vergleichcheck.com has been the registered manager of LUVA Nutrition Concepts Trading L.L.C S.O.C since 22 October 2026 (not a shareholder). Links to luvanutrition.ae lead to LUVA's own shop.

What the company figures say
- Over 1 million bottles per month: More Nutrition stated in March 2024 that it sells over a million bottles of its sugar-free syrup per month (LinkedIn post). Company statement.
- "Millions of bottles per month": Daniel Loidl, who works on More Nutrition's product development, speaks of millions of bottles per month in a podcast (eser.capital). Company statement.
We have no audited, third-party sales data for the whole German market, so we do not give a market size. The company figures alone show that the product is bought by far more people than a small fitness niche.
Why it worked in Germany
These are plausible reasons, not measured results:
- Low cost per glass: one small bottle flavours many litres of water.
- Many flavours: people rotate tastes instead of getting bored with plain water.
- Social media: new flavours are launched and shown online, which creates attention.
- Sugar-free label: in the EU, "sugar-free" may only be used for drinks with no more than 0.5 g sugars per 100 ml (Regulation 1924/2006).
What this means for the UAE
The UAE has a hot climate, high water intake and, according to MoHAP, 27.4% of adults drinking sugar-sweetened beverages daily (MoHAP). LUVA brings a sugar-free syrup range under its own registered UAE trademark ZERUP, with its own recipes and flavours. Whether the German pattern repeats here is not yet known; the launch is on 5 November 2026.
ZERUP vs the German example
We compare only what is published. ZERUP: 65 ml bottle, 10 flavours, sugar-free, approx. 2–3 kcal per 100 ml prepared drink, AED 19 on luvanutrition.ae, made for cold drinks. For the sugar-free syrup from More Nutrition we do not list prices or recipes here; it is not sold under the ZERUP name.
